A Gem of Khmer Art in Surin Province
When speaking of magnificent and historically significant ancient monuments in the lower Northeastern region of Thailand, Prasat Sikhoraphum, also known locally as Prasat Ra-ngaeng, is one landmark that should not be missed. Located in Sikhoraphum District, Surin Province, this temple is a cultural heritage site that beautifully and clearly reflects the ancient Khmer civilization, making it one of the finest examples in Thailand.
Prasat Sikhoraphum is believed to have been constructed around the 17th Buddhist century.

It was influenced by Khmer art from the Baphuon and Angkor Wat periods, a time when the Khmer Empire flourished and held great power across Southeast Asia.
Later, the temple was adapted into a Theravada Buddhist religious site, leading to certain renovations and additions. Despite these changes, its original structure has been remarkably well preserved.
